13 foreign women rescued from human trafficking ring

CHIAYI, Taiwan -- Law enforcement officials have broken a 15-member human trafficking ring in southern Taiwan, rescuing 13 foreign women who had been forced by the ring to work as prostitutes, a spokesman for the Coast Guard Administration (CGA) announced yesterday.

The spokesman said a task force consisting of CGA officers, immigration officials and police, and led by two public prosecutors from Chiayi and Yunlin counties, raided several locations in southern Taiwan a day earlier and arrested seven members of the ring, with the other eight members still at large.
