Romania denies two exchange students entry

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Two National Chengchi University seniors have been denied visas to go to Romania as exchange students.

Chang Men-ting and Tan Chin were waiting for more than a half year for the entry visas, a Chengchi University spokesman said yesterday. They were scheduled to leave for Romania in last October, the spokesman said.

Then, he said, their visa applications were returned to them from the Romanian embassy in Tokyo. Romania has no representative office in Taipei. Now that the two students have been denied entry visas, the Chengchi University spokesman said, they would have to go to Poland.

“We hope,” he said, “they will be accepted as exchange students in Poland.”

Taiwan accepts exchange students from Poland. Warsaw is expected to reciprocate.
