Disadvantaged children treated to free trips

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Three transportation companies carried out a project yesterday to offer free trips in the island’s two major cities to local children in an effort to show care to them.

China Airlines, Mandarin Airlines and Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. jointly sponsored 110 socially disadvantaged children to travel between Taipei City and the southern port city of Kaohsiung City by airplane and high speed rail, the latter of which has gained in popularity with the general public since its inauguration in January this year.

The places visited by the children included several tourist attractions, such as the Taipei 101 tower, Taipei Zoo and the Maokong Gondola, as well as Kaohsiung Harbor and the Dream-Mall shopping mall.
