U.N representatives of Taiwan’s allies visit

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A delegation of permanent representatives to the United Nations from seven of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies arrived in Taipei yesterday for a six-day visit, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) official said.

During their stay, they will meet with President Chen Shui-bian to give suggestions on Taiwan’s policies with regard to seeking membership of the United Nations.

They will also visit Legislative Yuan Speaker Wang Jin-pyng, Minister of Foreign Affairs James Huang, Mainland Affairs Council Chairman Chen Ming-tong and Government Information Office Minister Shieh Jhy-wey to exchange views on a variety of issues of mutual interest.

They were accompanied by Liao Kang-min, director-general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, the official said.

The representatives include Tamsir Jallow from The Gambia, Steve D. Matenje from Malawi, Maria Rubiales from Nicaragua, Camillo Gonsalves from Saint Vincent and Grenadines, Afelee Falema Pita from Tuvalu, Janine Coye-Felson from Belize and Luis Lithgow from the Dominican Republic, the official said.
