Brand-name clothes manufacturers eye China

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A Taiwan delegation comprised of 14 well-known garment companies is scheduled to head for China later this week to explore business opportunities, a spokesman for the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF) said yesterday.

The spokesman said members of the delegation, to be led by TTF Chairman Wang Wen-yuan, will tour several of China’s major cities, such as Tianjin and Beijing, where they will organize a series of fashion shows to release their latest textile products and trade consultations with local importers.

In addition, they will visit several department stores and other sales outlets to gain a better understanding of local consumption trends, according to the spokesman.

In spite of fierce competition from other global well-known garment manufacturers in China, the spokesman said Taiwan-made apparel,designed with a global vision, still enjoys a keen competitive edge.
