Forgetful people lose 3.39 mil. healthcare cards

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- People in Taiwan seem to be more forgetful than ever, as testified to by the fact that they lose large numbers of ID cards, healthcare cards and passports, a lawmaker said yesterday.

Chen Chao-jung, a legislator of the opposition Kuomintang (KMT), told a press conference at the Legislative Yuan that statistics compiled by the Ministry of the Interior show that its household registration offices around Taiwan have replaced 2.5 million lost ID cards in the past four years up to the end of September.

In the same period, the Bureau of National Health Insurance also reissued 3.39 million healthcare integrated circuit cards to those who lost their smart cards, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs replace nearly 80,000 passports, Chen said.
