Taiwan to join Nuremberg Invention Exhibition

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A total of 10 Taiwanese inventions are slated to enter the contest at the Nuremberg International Invention Exhibition in Germany set to run from Oct. 31 to Nov. 4, an education official said Friday.

A 13-member Taiwan delegation — headed by cretive inventor Teng Hung-chi, who has been dubbed “Taiwan’s Edison” — is scheduled to depart for Germany Oct. 30 for the event, the official continued.

Teng expressed his gratitude to the central Taiwan office of the Ministry of Education for offering subsidies to the 13 junior high, senior high and college students for their overseas expenditures, including lodging, meals and airfare.

All of the 13 students are likely to clinch medals for their impressive creativity during competitions held alongside the exhibition, Teng said.

The creative entries include a gadget for easily removing contact lenses from users’ eyes; a gear to prevent car passengers from getting wet while boarding or alighting in the rain; a helmet with an adjustable buckle to increase the comfort of motorcyclists. Other contraptions feature faucets, containers, umbrellas and aluminum foil bags, the official noted.
