CIB arrests white-collar fugitive at Taipei hotelChang Shih-chieh, 55, was arrested by CIB operatives at a Taipei hotel yesterday afternoon and was immediately transferred to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office on charges of securities law violations. According to investigators, the suspect tried to flee the country Sept. 22 using a fake passport, via southern Kaohsiung’s international airport but was detained by Kaohsiung customs officials. Chang was later released on a NT$200,000 bail. Days after the Taichung District Prosecutors Office received notice that Chang was attempting to escape by sea. On Oct. 1 a team of investigators went to his residence located on the third floor of an apartment in the city’s Renai Road. When Chang opened the door and saw the investigators, he asked them to wait outside for him to get dressed first, but instead escaped again. Police said he used a number of different disguises while he was on the run. | |||||||||||||
