Taiwan fund to sponsor poor children in Vietnam

Fund officials said the village, Quang Phong, in the Na Ri region about 240 km north of Hanoi, capital of Vietnam, has a population of around 30,000, composed mainly of five minority tribes: the Tay, Nung, Dao, Hmong and Kinh.

The officials said that because the village is in a remote mountainous area with little access to the outside world, it has been listed as one of the country’s most impoverished areas by the Vietnamese government.

This is why the fund has decided to help the children in the village, noting that when the fund recently sent officials to visit the village, they found the backwards and impoverished situation very similar to that of Taiwan four decades ago.

The fund called for Taiwan’s people to extend a helping hand so as to improve the medical care, living conditions and education in the village.
