Taiwan diabolo dance troupe popular in U.S.

NEW YORK -- The Diabolo Dance Theater of Taiwan won the hearts of its audience in New Jersey this weekend over the course of its 90-minute performance of a dance drama, titled “Heart of the Ocean” which features a combination of diabolo stunts, dances, music, drama and stage special effects.

The performance is part of the troupe’s one-month tour in the United States and Canada.

At the invitation of the Cabinet-level Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission, the troupe will stage 13 performances in the two countries between late September and late October.

It is the third time that the commission has invited the troupe to perform overseas, a commission official said, adding that the troupe was also successful in its tours in Africa and Asia in February this year and in 2006, respectively.

Founded in 1986, the troupe consists of performers aged between 8-24, who dress as little mermaids, bubble spirits, clown fish, and sharks in their performances.
