Agricultural losses from Typhoon Krosa amount to NT$749 million, says Council of AgricultureNantou, Tainan and Hualien counties suffered the most damage, with the losses of these areas totaling more than NT$100 million. Agricultural losses are estimated at NT$567 million, and over 13,283 acres of farmland are damaged due to Typhoon Krosa. Bananas, persimmons, guavas, papayas and grapes were damaged from broken branches and falling on the ground. All other losses were livestock, estimated at NT$190,000; fisheries, estimated at NT$1.16 million; fishery equipment and facilities, estimated at NT$150 million; forestry, estimated at NT$2.22 million; farmland and other related facilities, estimated of NT$27.25 million. Nantou suffered NT$157 million in losses, Tainan suffered NT$111 million and Hualien suffered NT$150 million of loss in agricultural goods. According to the COA, about 2,709 tons of frozen vegetables were released from large freezers to meet consumer needs. The losses of Nantou and Tainan counties have reached the level for subsidized applications of low interest mortgages. Farmers are now eligible to apply for them.
