No typhoon madness for Taitung; scorching windsThe hot and dry wind started at about 10:30 a.m., and continued for six to seven hours, sending up temperatures in the eastern county. The highest temperature of 38.5 degrees Celsius was recorded at Chengkung, where temperatures were at about 28 degrees Celsius before the scorching winds started descending from the high mountains in the west of the county. The county is prone to see scorching winds when typhoons hit other parts of the island, when moisture in the winds is sucked up by the high mountains on their way to the county. The weather in Taitung was calm most of the morning yesterday, with little wind or rain, the CNA said. | |||||||||||||
