Traffic control plans put in place for National Day activities

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Traffic controls around the Presidential Office on Oct. 3, 5, and 7 to facilitate the rehearsal of National Day celebration activities, the Taipei City Police Department said yesterday.

The traffic controls will be enforced from 12:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m., Oct. 3 and 5, and from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Oct. 7. But the controls may be advanced or extended pending the conditions, police said.

Based on a relevant program, there will be two major types of traffic control. One is for full-area control, covering south of Gueiyang Street, Zhongxiao W. Road, and Xiangyang Road; west of Guanchien Road, Gongyuan Road, and Nanchang Street; north of Nanhai Road and Guangzhou Street; and east of Yanping S. Road, Zhonghua Road, and Boai Road.

The other type refers to flexible control on some specific lanes, including the slow lane in the east side of Zhonghua Road (from Aigou W. Road to Kaifeng St. entrance), and all the lanes in the north side of Aigou E. Road (from Zhongshan S. Road to Hangzhou S. Road entrance).

During the traffic control time, the police said, all vehicles will be banned from the controlled areas, and public passenger buses will be required to change routes, with the new routes to be announced by the Department of Transportation under the Taipei City Government.

Meanwhile, city residents will also be banned from parking their cars at regular parking spaces at roadsides in early October.

Transportation officials said that from 9:00 p.m., Oct. 2 and 4, to 4:00 a.m. the following days, and from 12:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Oct. 7 and 10, the parking spaces for motorcycles on the both sides of Chonqing S. Road, the south side of Kaifeng S. Street (between Chonqing S. Rd. to Boai Rd.), and the south side of Hakou Street (between Huaining Street and Chonqing S. Rd.) won’t be available.

During the same time sections, the parking spaces for cars in the area south of Zhongxiao W. Rd., west of Huaining St., north of Henyang Rd., and east of Boai Rd., will also be suspended.
