Minister hopes for diploma recognition with France

Tu made the remarks while meeting with members of a visiting French higher education delegation who have come to Taiwan to attend a seminar at National Taiwan University (NTU) in Taipei City.

Tu said he is hopeful that the two sides will be able to sign an agreement on mutual diploma recognition when a Taiwan delegation visits France in mid-October.

Meanwhile, the NTU seminar focused on bilateral academic cooperation projects such as teaching personnel exchange programs, exchange students programs, short-term intern projects, dual degree systems, and the signing of sister school alliances.

The seminar was also attended by representatives of local universities and colleges, the Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan, and the French Institute in Taipei, which represents French interest in Taiwan in the absence of formal diplomatic ties.

Seminar participants exchanged views on establishing a system of official diploma recognition, each side’s definitions of higher education degrees, course content, and other steps that would bring the two sides closer to engaging in official academic cooperation.
