Int'l student culinary contest opens in TaipeiIt marks the first time that the contest, now in its third year, is taking place in Taiwan. This year’s contest has been organized by the Taipei city government and the Gold Coast City Council in Australia. Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin said at the opening ceremony that he hopes the students — from 10 cities in Australia, Japan, Vietnam, New Zealand, New Caledonia, and host Taiwan — will not simply strive to win the contest, but also win cross-border friendships, which he said express the spirit of an international exchange. Describing Taipei City as a “city of delicious food,” Hau said he also hopes that the foreign students will grasp this opportunity to get a taste of Taiwanese cuisine. The contest provides a platform for different cities to engage in culinary cultural exchanges, and for students to share their experiences and expand their horizons, Hau went on. | |||||||||||||
