Liu woke up early yesterday morning after his failed suicide attempt only to find his elder daughter lying unconscious on her bed and contacted emergency authorities. Miaoli County Police officers arriving at Liu’s residence met Liu at the door and followed him to the second floor to find smoke covering the residence and a pile of burning charcoal along with Liu’s two daughters. Liu and his two daughters were transported to a hospital, where Liu’s elder daughter did not display signs of life. Liu and his younger daughter remain in stable condition with no life-threatening danger. Liu said that he recently underwent a divorce and that he felt depressed. The thirty-one-year-old Liu left three suicide notes in his residence, one each for his family and uncle, and one for his wife describing his discontent with their past marriage.
