The 14 unfortunate Taiwanese tourists who were compelled to stay in Katmandu, Nepal for an extra wee

k due to technical and weather difficulties arrived yesterday safe and sound in Taiwan, said officials from the Tourism Bureau.

Otsgsa Overseas Travel Service Co., which organized the tour, will have to pay for the tourists’ accommodation and living expenses for the extra week they had to stay in Nepal, according to the code of practice of travel agencies.

The group of 14 tourists had originally planned to stay seven days in Nepal. They were supposed to arrive in Taiwan on Aug. 25.

However, their Royal Nepal Airlines flight between Katmandu and Hong Kong encountered technical difficulties and the passengers were asked to get off the plane just after boarding.

When the plane was eventually fixed, the weather then deteriorated, and the tourists were compelled to stay in Katmandu for another few days.

On Aug. 28, the tourists thus tried to transit through Dacca Airport in Bangladesh, on the way to Hong Kong and Taipei. But their flight was once again canceled because of unfavorable weather conditions.

The group of tourists finally reached Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport yesterday at noon. They were welcomed by officials from the Tourism Bureau, the representative of their travel agency and a member of the legislature.

The tourists, however, refused to comment on their long stay in Nepal, and hid their faces from the cameras.
