Peru’s quake survivors need more help: The Commercial Office of Peru in Taipei

The Commercial Office of Peru in Taipei (COPT) announced yesterday that it would set up a charity campaign to help survivors of the recent Peru earthquake which made victims out of many people in the poorest rural regions of the country.

According to Peruvian authorities, the devastating 7.9-magnitude earthquake also left thousands of injured, as well as thousands of homeless families.

The two-minute-long earthquake, which struck Lima at a depth of 40 kilometers, also sent strong aftershocks, ranging from magnitudes of 5.4 to 5.9.

The Peruvian government also said that it wanted to thank the international community for its generosity in sending relief aid to Peru. However, the government indicated that much more is still needed, because damages to housing and infrastructures have reached catastrophic proportions. For instance, provisions of clothing, food, medicine, and water will still be needed for the next few months.

Accordingly, the COPT is welcoming people to join the group of humanitarian donors who have already given their support.

The COPT has therefore opened a bank account at the Taiwan Post Co., Ltd. (Account No. 50039745), where you can channel your contribution for the relief effort. For more information, contact the Peru office directly in Taipei at 02/2757-7017 or email your questions to postmaster@peru.org.tw.
