European Union office to publish investor tip handbook

The European Economic and Trade Office in Taiwan (EETOT) is scheduled to publish in September a handbook on investing in the European Union, according to a press release issued by EETOT yesterday.

The handbook is aimed at allowing Taiwan investors to gain a better understanding of the investment climate in the EU as well as trade and investment opportunities in the world’s largest economy, according to EETOT officials.

According to the EETOT, Taiwan is the ninth-largest supplier of goods in the world to the EU and the fifth-largest Asian trading partner of the EU, behind China, Japan, South Korea and India, in that order.

The amount that the EU imports from Taiwan equals about 15 percent of what it imports from China, the EETOT officials said.

Noting that there is still ample room for Taiwan to improve in terms of investment in Europe, EETOT officials said the EU is the world’s largest economy and that investing in any of the 27 member countries of the EU is tantamount to a passport to entering an immense market of a total population of 500 million.

EETOT officials added that Taiwan companies have missed many golden opportunities to invest in Europe in the past.
