It was the third case such escape from that detention center recently. The NIA, which is governed by the Interior Ministry, has lacked the manpower and funding needed to effectively run the detention centers in Yilan and other parts of Taiwan since its inauguration on Jan. 2, 2007. The NIA took over the Yilan detention center from the National Police Agency, but the staff at the facility was reduced to 91 from 160, Lee said. He said he has asked Wu to stay in office to address the security issues at these detention centers. Lee said that he will call a meeting with officials from relevant government agencies to address the problem. Asked if punishments would be meted out over the escapes at the Yilan detention center, Lee said relevant supervisors and personnel had been severely punished over the previous two incidents, with some of them having been relocated to other positions. | Breaking News Most Read |
