Information management still most popular field of study

Information management is still the most popular field of study among university students in Taiwan, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Education yesterday.

The figures on the 10 most popular fields of study in Taiwan’s universities and colleges show that information management drew the largest enrollment, with 57,563 students in 2006. The top-10 list for 2006 showed little change from the previous year. Business management retained the second spot with 52,595 students, while electrical and control engineering remained third with 36,097 students.

Fourth place went to finance, which attracted 31,136 students, followed by mechanical engineering with 30,596 students; electronic engineering and microelectronics engineering with a total enrollment of 30,476 students; and computer science and information engineering, with 27,441 students.

Accounting was the eighth favorite choice, with 24,487 students, while nursing and child care ranked ninth and 10th with 20,566 and 17,791 students respectively.

At the post-graduate level, electrical and control engineering surpassed all other areas of study, with the master degree programs recording an enrollment of 5,811 students, and doctorate programs attracting 1,796 students.
