Tribute band ‘Bootleg Beatles’ to perform in Taiwan debut

The British band Bootleg Beatles performed songs of the Beatles at a Taipei hotel yesterday as an overture to its debut concert in Taiwan.

“We do three periods of the Beatles; this is the late Beatles,” said Andre Barreau, the “George Harrison” of the band, referring to the three songs performed at a press conference at the hotel.

The Bootleg Beatles, set up in 1980 as a tribute to the legendary British band, was the first Western rock group to tour in the Soviet Union in 1982. They also performed for Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in 2002.

“She (the queen) was thrilled, happy, and Paul McCartney was there,” a member recalled the performance.

All the look-alikes think their noses most resemble the authentic Beatles. But they said they do not look like the Beatles off-stage.

The concert will take place at the Taipei International Center on July 28 and 29.

The Taiwanese rock group, 13 Band, also performed one of the Beatles classics, “Revolution,” at the press conference to express their admiration for the Beatles.

“We think that the Beatles represents infinite imagination,” said Hsiao Bao, vocal of 13 Band, before playing “Revolution” and their own song.
