Mother, daughter commit suicide over debt

A mother committed suicide along with her daughter by inhaling carbon monoxide in Taichung yesterday as police found their bodies inside an apartment.

Police found the bodies inside an apartment after neighbors reported the foul smell for five days.

The mother, surnamed Lai, left behind eight suicide notes which said that she had been burdened by NT$2 million of debt.

Lai’s suicide note said that she had left behind a number of name brand purses for Lai’s mother to sell at a used merchandise store.

Lai’s mother said that she had just seen her daughter and her granddaughter a few days before their bodies were found.
