Over 1,000 pirated video games confiscated

Customs officers seized 1,560 pirated video game DVDs with a market value of more than NT$2.3 million July 6, the Taipei Customs Office announced yesterday in a press release. The counterfeit DVDs were nabbed by customs agents in a random inspection of an express delivery zone within Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, the office said in the statement, adding that airport police have begun tracking the importer of the illegal products.

According to the office, the seizure was a demonstration of Taiwan’s efforts to clamp down on commercial piracy and protect Taiwan’s image of protecting intellectual property rights.

Anyone caught selling or importing pirated goods will be subject to punishment in accordance with the Trademark Law and Copyright Law, the official said.
