Updated Tuesday, June 19, 2007 0:00 am TWN, The China Post staff Suspects arrested for making drugs at cemeteryAgents from the Investigation Bureau said yesterday that they had received tips three months ago that an operation had been set up to produce prohibited drugs near the incinerator of a cemetery in Dashu Township. Following close monitoring, prosecutors and police decided to make the arrest when the two suspects were returning during the night to pick up the finished ketamine. A total of 220 kilograms of crystallized ketamine and semi-finished products were seized, plus the production equipment. A 32-year-old former engineer, surnamed Lin, was the ring’s leader. He formerly worked at a high-tech company in Hsinchu Science Park. But he told investigators that the salary he drew as an engineer held no comparison to the lucrative drug operation. Lin said he had taken trips to Southeast Asian nations to gather the manufacturing know-how and market information in order to produce the illicit drugs. Arrested along with Lin was a man surnamed Hsu, aged 31. The duo said they thought no one would suspect that a drug-producing operation would be located in a cemetery, especially if they worked late at night. Investigators said they will continue the probe to locate accomplices or other people involved in selling the drugs to pubs and other entertainment establishments. | Breaking News Most Read |
