A man was sentenced to three months in prison on charges of forging high-speed rail tickets for sale

, according to the Taipei District Court.

The man, 42 and surnamed Huang, will be allowed to choose either three-months imprisonment or pay an equivalent amount of fines.

The court verdict noted that on March 21, Huang purchased two adult tickets for a trip from Taipei to Tsoying on April 4 at a unit cost of NT$1,490, as well as 18 child-use tickets for the same route and date at a cost of NT$745 per ticket.

The man went on to forge six of the child-use tickets into adult-use ones at his residence in Pinglin Township, Taipei County and auctioned the tickets online via the "Yahoo Kimo" auction platform.

On March 28, the winner of the tickets auction got the tickets and realized that they had been "re-processed." The winner then tipped the police of Huang's illegal practice after the Taiwan High-Speed Rail Corp. verified that the tickets were forged, leading to Huang's arrest.

Although the Taipei District Court ruled that Huang would face a jail term of three months or pay an equivalent amount of fines, Huang will be allowed to appeal to the high court.
