Entertainer Hu Gua and his girlfriend Ting Jou-an started mandatory rehabilitation for marijuana use

yesterday.

The two checked into the Taipei Detention Center after reporting to the Taipei Prosecutors Office in the afternoon.

The forced rehabilitation follows a verdict from the Taipei District Court after the couple tested positive for using marijuana, which is banned in Taiwan. Test results showed that Hu smoked marijuana between September and November of last year, while Ting used the drug between last November and January.

Investigators also uncovered 30 grams of marijuana in a secret compartment at Hu's Taipei residence during a March 25 search probing into allegations that Hu attempted to bribe a judge with NT$10 million to acquit him of charges in a separate gambling fraud case.

Both Hu and Ting filed an appeal that was rejected by the Taiwan High Court on May 3.

They declined to talk to the media when entering the detention center located in Taipei County.

Hu, a popular TV program host, only revealed that he was taking with him three books which have contents reflecting the same situation he is currently in.

The two are required to stay at the rehabilitation center for between 48 days and two months for detoxication and observation.
