‘Great River Queen’ offers luxury Danshui tours

Great River Queen, a newly completed luxury cruise boat owned by the Great River Tourism Co., will begin to offer sightseeing tours combined with five star food along the Danshui river in northern Taiwan from June 1.

A spokesman for the company said Thursday that the three-deck passenger barge, based at Guandu Wharf, will operate four tours a day, each lasting about two hours.

He said that in addition to lunch, afternoon tea and dinner cruises, there will be a narrated sightseeing tour every morning to let students and social groups understand the history and unique ecology of the river.

The normal full prices are NT$1,550 per head for a weekday tour and NT$1,880 for a tour on a weekend or holiday, with food and drink included, the spokesman said, adding that the company will allow a 20 percent discount throughout June.

The spokeswoman also said all food served on the boat will be prepared by chefs from the Sheraton Taipei Hotel, which is noted for its gourmet cooking, and that passengers will also be able to listen to live music while they enjoy the views along the river

The 500-ton boat, built by San Yang Shipbuilding Co., carries a price tag of NT$150 million. Measuring 40.5 meters long and 10 meters wide, with a maximum designed speed of 12 knots, the boat can accommodate up to 320 passengers.
