Updated Sunday, May 27, 2007 0:00 am TWN, The China Post staff Suspect identified in murder case of Taipei County Councilor WuPolice have also managed to obtain footage from a surveillance camera revealing the lower part of the face of a half-helmeted man believed to be the gunman who shot dead Councilor Wu Shan-chiu at his office in Hsintien. After screening footage from surveillance cameras, the police task force in charge of the case said the motorcycle on which the suspect fled the murder scene is a Sanyang R1 with a license plate number ending in “706.” Police said the English letters of the plate seemed to have been covered or altered, and they were unclear. But the identification of the motorbike type and part of the license plate number has already helped narrow down the search to fewer than 100 motorcycles. Police pointed out that the motorcycle could be a stolen one, which would make the lead rather useless. The part of the face revealed in the footage was rather common, police said. But they stressed that people who know the suspect should still be able to identify him by his features. The police said if necessary, they will make public the footage, taped while the suspect was making a call at a public phone to Wu’s office before the attack. Police have declined to speculate on the motivation behind the murder of the councilor from the People First Party. Some of his PFP fellows have suggested that the case might be related his frequent attempts to prevent illegal gravel mining along a river in the northern county. Some media reports have claimed that the councilor owed some NT$90 million because of losses from his businesses in China. | Breaking News Most Read |
