Updated Friday, May 11, 2007 0:00 am TWN, The China Post staff COA to probe how Sanlih won its NT$19.3 mil. contractKuomintang (KMT) Legislator Chen Chao-jung said that the COA set aside a budget of more than NT$19.3 million to air its agricultural development policies. The contract was farmed out to Sanlih, which was awarded a contract from the Government Information Office to produce a documentary marking the 60th anniversary the “2-28 incident” but it has used misleading footage containing scenes of earlier civil war between the KMT and the Chinese Communist Party in mainland China. Sanlih, seen by many as a pro-government cable TV network, apologized for its handling of the 2-28 documentary but made no comments on the COA contract. COA officials told Legislator Chen that the council has abided by the government procurement rules when giving the contract to Sanlih because the screening panel on bids was composed of three scholars to account for more than one-third of the seven-member panel. Chen raised the question of how so many government contracts ended up in the hands of Sanlih. COA Chairman Su Jia-chyuan promised to ask the anti-corruption unit in his council to gain an understanding of the procedures and operations concerning the awarding of the NT$19.3 million contract. | Breaking News Most Read |
