FSC urges people to safeguard personal identification dataThe FSC said that in order to prevent their personal identification data from being used by unlawful figures for illegal uses, people should keep their receipts, bank account statements, credit-card bills, or even addressed direct mail (DM). If people want to throw away these documents as trash, they should shred them first. People are also advised to pay attention to regular mail, such as monthly bills or bank account statements, and should find out the reason for any delay, to determine whether they have been stolen. In addition, people should clearly check the expenditure items to see of there are any abnormal expenses. If strange purchases are found, people should find their causes and make sure their personal data have not been abused. If people change their address, they should inform banks, government units or other relevant units of the change to ensure mail is properly sent to the new address. Also, the FSC advises people to close those bank accounts that are seldom or never used to minimize the possibility that their personal identification information is leaked. As people can now easily access websites anywhere, they are advised not to key in their personal ID data into public-use computers such as those installed at Internet cafe facilities or public libraries, according to the FSC. | |||||||||||||
