Updated Thursday, March 8, 2007 0:00 am TWN, The China Post staff China allows SEF official to visitSun Chi-ming, a travel service official of the SEF, attended a cross-strait travel industry function held in Chengdu between March 1 and March 5 and met with mainland travel officials, Chang said. Sun traveled to mainland China as the consultant of the Taiwan delegation after Taiwan’s Travel Quality Assurance Association applied to mainland authorities for his visit. Chang said that he hopes Sun’s visit is the start of friendly relations between mainland China and Taiwan and that the SEF will build on the mainland’s friendly gesture to serve and push for cross-strait exchanges. Asked if he is willing to visit China, Chang said, “I am willing to do anything that will benefit positive development between mainland China and Taiwan.” Travel industries on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are eager for the two governments to work out an agreement to allow more mainland tourists to visit Taiwan. The numbers are currently restricted. SEF secretary general Yu Ying-lung said that Sun’s mainland visit was an important breakthrough in cross strait exchanges. Yu said that he does not rule out the possibility that higher level exchanges between SEF and mainland China authorities can take place in the future. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%.
