Updated Wednesday, August 3, 2005 0:00 am TWN, The China Post staff Koos deny allegations about illegitimate daughterKoo’s family, during a press conference, issued three points in their statement. First, They insisted that Chang Yi-hua, daughter of Teng, is not Koo’s child. Secondly, the family declared that Koo had never paid a penny towards the upbringing of Chang. Finally, the family members stated that, although numerous requests have been made, Chang never agreed to undergo a DNA test. In order to discourage people from coveting the large amount of property left by the deceased Koo, the family members had decided to bring Teng and her daughter to court. Teng, 64, stated that she began an affair with Koo 41 years ago. After three years, Teng gave birth to Chang, whom she insists to be Koo’s child. Teng also stressed that, since her daughter’s birth, Koo’s family has constantly provided with the two with large sums of money and two houses. Since 1994, Chang and Teng had repeated expressed desire to be included into the Koo family, said the lawyer. However, their requests have been turned down by Koo due to what the lawyer claims to be special reasons. Although failing to be included, Chang and Teng continued to receive financial aid from Koo, declared the lawyer. Teng’s lawyer stated that Koo, while on his deathbed, went against his family’s wishes and signed two checks, NT$20 million each, for Teng and Chang. After Koo passed away, his family members decided to withhold the checks since they feel that Chang is not Koo’s child. One of the checks expired on July 30, prompting a furious Teng to bring a legal suit against the family, the lawyer continued. Teng’s lawyer attributed the fault to Koo’s family members, who disrespected the last wishes of the deceased and refused to produce the two checks for Teng and Chang. “Teng and Chang had always been open to the option of DNA testing,” said the lawyer. According to TV reports as of 8:00 p.m. yesterday, the test will be conducted this morning. Meanwhile, Koo’s family described Teng as a money-grabbing liar and vowed to counter-sue in order to uphold the integrity of the deceased. Her actions verge on the edge of extortion and blackmail, said one family member. If she does not desist, the family will strike back with full strength, the family member promised. A total of NT$80 million, in the form of cash and property, has been given to Teng and Chang over the years, said one of Koo’s sons. Litigation is only way to put a stop to Teng’s shameless attempts to wrest for more money from the family, the son said. He further indicated that, starting in 1994, Teng repeatedly threatened to go public and defame Koo if she did not receive financial support from the Koo family. The family complied with Teng only because the false allegations would tarnish the otherwise spotless reputation of Koo, said the son. Teng and Chang had also promised many times not to harass Koo and his family after NT$60 million had been provided for the two, the son continued. However, Teng and Chang resorted to their old tricks again in 2004, when Koo was bedridden with sickness, the son pointed out. After Koo’s death, Teng again threatened to go public if she did not receive NT$200 million from the family, the son claimed. “We will not tolerate the shameless extortion efforts by Teng and Chang any longer,” declared the son, who indicated that all legal proceedings will be taken care of by their lawyer from this point on.
