Arranged by Taipei’s Zhongshan District Office, the beer festival will feature magic show and dances along with other activities.

The first brewery in Taiwan, Jianguo Brewery, also known as the Taipei Brewery, was built in 1919 during the Japanese occupation and was reputed to produce beer that rivaled the quality and taste of Japanese brews.

The brewery is classified as a historical site by the Taipeis Department of Cultural Affairs and is currently the only historical site in the city still operating in its original function.

City officials plan to turn the brewery into a cultural center that can host art exhibitions, jazz festivals, and live concerts.

The brewery’s operator, Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation, said that it plans to utilize the historical value of the facility and develop the site into a tourist brewery similar to those in Japan and Europe where visitors can tour the beer-making plant and taste samples of the fresh brews.
