Hot springs ad hoax uncovered

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Hsingfu Real Estate firm was fined NT$3 million yesterday by the Fair Trade Commission (FTC), after being caught using false advertising to lure buyers to invest in their apartment building complex in Bali, Taipei County.

The FTC ruled yesterday that publishers of the advert, Hsingfu Real Estate Co. would be fined for deliberately misleading buyers by use of false advertising. The advert claimed buyers of housing in the complex would have exclusive use of hot springs located on the premesis.

However, FTC spokesperson Chou Ya-shu said the advertisement for the package deal offering access to the complex’s “Royal Hot Springs” was a hoax, with outsiders also using the hot springs.

After purchasing units, buyers found that there were unwelcome guests from outside the complex’s “exclusive” membership.
