Chunghwa Telecom introduces new 4G deals

With growing competition in the 4G market, Chunghwa Telecom (CHT, 中華電信) yesterday announced its new 4G data plan deals, increasing allowed data use while lowering prices, hoping to attract more customers.

Those enrolled in the NT$636, NT$936 and NT$1136 data plans, with purchase of select 4G compatible phones, can have unlimited 4G data use in the first six months, and starting on the seventh month until the contract's expiration, their allowed monthly data use will be tripled while landline calling minutes will be doubled.

Those who sign up for the NT$1,366 monthly plan will also be enjoying unlimited 4G data use for up to 30 months, as well as unlimited calling in the CHT network, which has about 11 million subscribers. They may also qualify for more free minutes for landline calls. For those who already own a 4G LTE compatible phone, they may apply for a new account and enjoy the same terms.

Since obtaining the 4G license, CHT has investment a great deal of time and effort in setting up 4G infrastructure, said the company's Mobile Business Group President Lin Guo-fong (林國豐). Many of its goals in fact have been completed ahead of schedule, and can therefore provide better 4G service to customers.

Far EasTone (遠傳) announced yesterday that the National Communications Commission has completed examining the company's 4G 1800MHz base station construction. As such, Far EasTone will soon roll out 4G services running on both 700 HMz and 1800 Mhz frequencies. The new service is expected to hit the market in September. It will be the first company in Taiwan to do provide 4G service at two frequencies.

Taiwan Mobile (台灣大哥大) also announced its new 4G data plan yesterday. Starting next month, those who sign up for a 2-year-plan or 30-month contract at a price of NT$1399, will enjoy unlimited 4G use as well as free calling within the Taiwan Mobile network.

Taiwan Mobile also rolls out 4G calling card. The pre-paid card comes with an allotment of 1.2GB data transfer.
