Taoyuan magistrate praises the green credentials of Unimicron

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taoyuan County Magistrate Wu Chih-yang on Thursday praised the sustainable core values of circuit board maker Unimicron during a visit to the company, which won a 2014 ROC Enterprise Environmental Protection Award for promoting green energy.

Wu was accompanied on the visit to Gueishan Industrial Park in the county by a group of officials from Taoyuan's Economic Development Bureau and was given a tour of Unimicron's production line and its peripheral equipment.

He showed particular interest in Unimicron's environmental facilities, from its dust collection system and biological treatment center (for treating wastewater) to a patented wind power generator driving system that recycles energy.

Impressed by the complex, Wu praised the company for its innovations and commitment to the environment.

According to the company, the wind power system uses gases emitted from the exhaust tower to drive a wind power turbine at the top of the tower. The resulting power is used to run the lights in the offices at the Unimicron plant.

Economic Development Bureau officials said the company's core value of sustainability and its devotion to protecting the environment and generating green energy were obvious based on its many projects at the factory site to recycle power, cut carbon emissions and stem pollution.

The company has received an R.O.C. Enterprise Environmental Protection Award three times in a row and won the Deming Prize for its quality management systems.
