TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Quanta Computer Inc. (廣達) yesterday announced consolidated revenue of NT$71.803 billion for June, a growth of 4.8 percent year-on-year, and 2.4 percent month-on-month.
In June the company shipped 4.3 million units of notebook computers, a month-on-month growth of 10.25 percent, exceeding the original forecasts of below 10 percent.
In the second quarter, the firm's sales of notebook computers reached 11.5 million units, improving 9.52 percent over the 10.5 million shipped throughout the previous quarter. The results are on target with the company's projected goal to achieve a 10-percent growth in notebook computer shipments. In the first half of the year the company shipped 22 million notebook computers.
Citing historical precedents, the company stated that the peak season for consumer electronic products typically arrives in autumn. Quanta stated that its laptop shipments in the third quarter are expected to improve over the previous period's results. The company, however, stated that due to the stellar results recorded in the second quarter, further improvements in growth for the third quarter may be challenging.
The company added that in line with cyclical demand and due to a surge in expected shipping volume growth in the second half of the year, total shipping volume is anticipated to see a decline from last year's tally.
Cloud computing products are still the main source of momentum this year, said the company, adding that compared to last year, cloud computing server products are poised to grow by 20 percent, with revenues also expected to see a similar 20-percent rise.
The company noted that due to declining retail prices of notebook computers, June's month-on-month revenues growth of 2.4 percent did not keep pace with concurrent growth in shipping volumes recorded in the same period.
