Taipei International Food Show off to a good start

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The 2014 five-in-one Taipei International Food Show kicked off yesterday, featuring food products from around the globe as well as different food processing equipment. It is being held at the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC) and Nangang Exhibition Hall.
This is the 24th year of the Taipei International Food Show. A total of 1,592 merchants are participating in the event in which 3,947 booths are on display, featuring food products from 35 countries, eight of which are making their debut in Taiwan — Macedonia, the Kingdom of Swaziland, Vietnam, Croatia, Colombia, Mexico, Greece and Austria.
The megashow encompasses Food Taipei, Halal Taiwan, Foodtech & Pharmatech Taipei, Taipei Pack, Taiwan HORECA, as well as the ancillary Laundry Taiwan Show.
The Taipei International Food Show (Food Taipei) will showcase food products and food processing machines from Taiwan's biggest industry players as well as pavilions showcasing delicacies from 35 counties, which is a new record. The Japan Pavilion will feature fish and processed seafood, popular alcoholic and soft drinks. The Thailand Pavilion will feature 10 of the country's top food companies, showcasing local rice, fruits, vegetables, spices and so on.
Merchants Ready to Enter Muslim Market
The Taiwan International Halal Expo (Halal Taiwan) features Taiwanese companies that aim to enter the Muslim market. A total of 35 exhibitors are showcased in this designated area. Taiwan's companies have been actively pursuing halal certification from mosques, and the number of certified companies has grown from 73 not too long ago to 288 currently — helping these companies prepare to capture the 1.6-billion-strong Muslim market.
The Taipei International Processing & Pharmaceutical Machinery Show (Foodtech & Pharmatech Taipei) will feature beverage processing and preparation machinery, food industry turnkey projects, bakery equipment and refrigeration equipment as well as disposal and sanitation equipment.
The Taipei International Packaging Industry Show (Taipei Pack) aims to draw together packaging industry professionals, featuring various kinds of packaging machinery, materials, containers and more.
The Taiwan International Hotel, Restaurants & Catering Show (Taiwan HORECA) will display Taiwan's top-tier hotels, restaurants and catering brands. Up to 172 exhibitors will present their products and services in 523 booths.
In an effort to promote the hospitality industry, the Taiwan International Laundry Industry Show (Laundry Taiwan) makes its debut this year, featuring laundromat chains and eco-friendly washing technologies. Products on display will include dry cleaning machines, spin dryers, ironing equipment, detergents, electric hanging frames and more.
A Special Area for the Health Conscious
For the first time this year, the show will feature a Vegetarian and Organic Food Area that tailors toward the health-conscious. A total of 15 companies will participate in this area, showcasing natural and healthful mushrooms and other fungi, nuts, grain powders and coffees, to name a few.
There will also be procurement meetings held at the exhibition. According to event organizer TAITRA, over 2,000 buyers from the U.S., Canada, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and China have registered for buyer-seller matchmaking sessions.
