Kaohsiung holds int'l cruise forum

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The 2014 Asia Cruise Forum is being held in Taiwan for the first time in Kaohsiung, and well-known international cruise lines have congregated to share and exchange their experience in the cruise tourism business.

With the release of sky lanterns the forum started yesterday in the presence of Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu (陳菊) and Transportation Minister Yeh Kuang-shih (葉匡時).

About 280 people attended yesterday's event. Among them were representatives from top cruise lines including Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Star Cruises, 12 Asian port authorities, domestic and foreign travel agencies, academic institutions, cruise line associations and more.

The event helps to increase the exposure of the harbor city of Kaohsiung in the cruise industry, said the city's mayor Chen. Various cruises lines would have the chance to exchange their experience in cruise management, operation and tourism during the cruise forum, she added.

The forum is scheduled to hold a discussion on cruise line itinerary planning today, allowing cruise lines to confer about their expertise in this area.

Taiwan International Ports Corporation Inc., the sponsor of the event, is taking the lead to guide cruise line agents to various tourist attractions in Southern Taiwan, including art exhibitions, memorial halls and traditional villages.
