TAIPEI, Taiwan -- HTC Corp. (宏達電) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Far EasTone Telecom (FET, 遠傳電信) to form a strategic partnership for providing fourth-generation mobile service.
The signing ceremony of the MOU between FET and HTC was hosted by FET President Yvonne Li (李彬) and HTC Chief Financial Officer Chang Chia-lin (張嘉臨) in Taipei.
As FET is expected to launch 4G services soon, the strategic partnership with HTC will give FET an advantage in winning the title of Taiwan's largest 4G mobile service provider.
FET aims to become Taiwan's No. 1 mobile commerce provider within the next three years, Li said. New mobile services are expected to exceed NT$5 billion within three years and account for 6 percent of overall revenue, she added.
Far EasTone has also set a goal of expanding its share of the enterprise telecom service market to 20 percent in 2017 from 15 percent, she said.
Through the MOU, HTC's 4G smartphone will be chosen by FET to serve as that company's LTE supplier.
HTC took the title of largest smartphone supplier in terms of value in the local market during April on the back of strong interest in its latest flagship model, the HTC One M8, market statistics showed. In terms of value share, HTC took about 26 percent of the Taiwan market in April.
