DBS hosts Taipei AIC, talks of RMB, e-commerce

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The annual DBS Asian Insights Conference (AIC) is being held in Taipei for the first time today, highlighting two important realities for Taiwan: its function as a Chinese renminbi (RMB) offshore financial center and the future of e-commerce.

DBS Bank Taiwan is hosting the first "DBS Asian Insights Conference" in Taiwan, bringing analytical experts from the fields of economy, currency, e-commerce and industrial from all of Asia together to speak on the two topics that will shape Taiwan's future business landscape — "Development Trend of Renminbi and Offshore Financial Center" and "Future Outlook of E-Commerce."

The conference is a platform established in 2013, helping clients to capture development trends as we move into the future and helping customers identify investment opportunities.

Holding the first AIC in Taiwan is a strong indicator of Taiwan's key role in the DBS Group's Greater China strategy, said General Manager of DBS Bank Taiwan Jerry Chen (陳亮丞).

DBS Bank Taiwan invited notable speakers such as Jan Hung-tze (詹宏志), also known as the Taiwan E-Commerce godfather, Cheng Cheng-mount (鄭貞茂), president of Taiwan Academy of Banking and Finance, and Christina Liu (劉憶如), former finance minister, to share insights and cutting-edge perspectives with customers, helping them to better know the Asian market and prioritize investment possibilities.

Showing support and high regard for the Taiwanese market and customers, both Chairman of DBS Group Peter Seah as well as DBS Group Chief Executive Officer Piyush Gupta will attend the first AIC Taiwan in person today.

According to Piyush Gupta, DBS is convinced that Asia's newfound strength will bring forth new Asian values. The bank has strengthened knowledge about the region, improved network capabilities, banking experiences and innovative services, growing into the bank of choice in Asia.

As a key component in a Greater China road map, said Gupta, DBS is set to invest in Taiwan and endeavors to be the best financial institution for customers to partner with. He stressed that DBS strives to empower Taiwanese clients to achieve global standing from an Asian perspective.
