2014 TIBS breaks attendance record with 10,000 visitors

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The 2014 Taiwan International Boat Show (TIBS) kicked off in Kaohsiung Exhibition Center (KEC) yesterday, breaking first-day attendance records in the center by welcoming 10,000 visitors.

Amid the roaring horns of the 60 yachts at the venue, 2014 TIBS started its four-day run in KEC. The show was organized by the Bureau of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Economic Affairs in collaboration with Kaohsiung City Government and was implemented by government-backed trade promoter Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) .

According to TAITRA Chairman C.K. Wang (王志剛), the exhibition features a total of 168 yacht manufacturers and includes a variety of marine craft in 861 indoor booths and 20 marina berths.

The inauguration attracted 600 notables from the government, industry and academics. Minister without Portfolio Yang Chiu-hsing (楊秋興), Mayor of Kaohsiung Chen Chu (陳菊), Taiwan Yacht Industry Association Chairperson Lu Chia-yang (呂佳揚) and others appeared during the ceremony to extend their congratulations and well wishes.

According to ShowBoats International's 2014 Global Order Book, Taiwan is the world's sixth largest manufacturing country for yachts 80-foot and above, with 5,656 feet under construction in total.

A total of 80 percent of the nation's yacht industry is based in Kaohsiung, with 90 percent of locally made yacht exports passing through its port annually.
