EVA Air touts service upgrade on new 777s

TAIPEI--EVA Airways (EVA,長榮航空), Taiwan's second largest airline, said Wednesday that the quality of service on its new Boeing 777 aircraft to be delivered May 21 will amaze its passengers.

EVA President Chang Kuo-wei (張國煒) said the two Boeing 777-300ERs will offer Panasonic Avionics' Global Communications Suite (GCS), the first Boeing 777-300ER worldwide authorized for the entertainment package.

"What the new aircraft bring is a revolutionary change in air travel," Chang said. "Taking an airplane will be more convenient and interesting."

Once the two planes are put into service on June 3, passengers will be able to watch HD-quality films on touch screens and use Wi-Fi services on the GCS deck, Chang said.

The Boeing 777-300ERs, which seat 333 passengers, will fly between Taipei and New York every Sunday and Monday and between Taipei and Los Angeles the other days of the week, Chang said.

The new aircraft will allow the carrier to increase the frequency of its service to North America.

The Taipei-New York route will see two more flights per week, bringing the total to seven a week, and three flights per week will be added to the Los Angeles route for a total of 20 a week.

One flight per week will be added on the Vancouver and Toronto routes, bringing the total to four a week to each destination.

EVA will introduce one more Boeing 777-300ER next month to further boost capacity on its routes to San Francisco and Los Angeles, which will give the carrier 55 round trips per week between Taiwan and North America.

China Airlines (CAL,中華航空), Taiwan's largest carrier, will also introduce three Boeing 777s this year, with the first one of them to be delivered in September.

CAL said the aircraft will also bring state-of-the-art entertainment to its passengers, and its new economy class will feature seats that allow passengers to lie flat across a row.
