YFY kickstarts straw pulp facility

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- YFY Corp. (永豐餘) recently revealed that its first NPulp facility in Jiangsu province of mainland China has entered mass production, allowing the firm to pioneer the full utilization of whole-straw pulp to produce environmentally friendly packaging materials.

YFY made the aforementioned statement while posting its March sales results last week.

In late 2013, YFY announced that it launched its first Npulp facility in Yangzhou City of Jiangsu province, the fourth-largest agricultural straw producer in China. YFY stressed that the building of the facility has received the full support of the Jiangsu Province Agriculture Commission.

Following the policy guideline set by China's 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), local authorities in each province have committed to reducing greenhouse gas emission. YFY said its innovative Npulp technology not only holds great promise for Jiangsu in its transformation into a eco-friendly province, but also for China as a whole, with the advent of the “zero-emission, low pollution” paper-making era.

Global Environmental Certification

YFY Npulp has passed a series of product tests and obtained environmental system certifications on biological pulping plants carried out by international authoritative testing agencies and environmental organizations.

A New Revolution in China's Agro-economy

Npulp is a production technology of making pulp from agricultural straw without the use of harsh chemicals. Segmentation and screening technologies are utilized to separate fiber from fines, and the fiber is used to produce pulp through thermal energy, mechanical force and enzymes. The remaining natural fertilizers in the straw that are rich in organic substances can fertilize fields in return, according to YFY.

Npulp technology also allows every part of crops to be utilized most efficiently, so that the straw, which was regarded as agricultural waste, can yield maximum economic benefits. Through the integration between Npulp technology and agriculture, farmers can harvest both grains and fiber, and enjoy increased profits from land. With this technology, farmers can also obtain 108 kilos of organic fertilizers per mu (667 square meters) of land, YFY said.

Data from agricultural statistics issued by the National Bureau of Statistics in China showed that with the adoption of the comprehensive utilization technology for agricultural straw, carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced by 0.675 tons per mu, which would bring 78 renminbi in carbon credits, at carbon credit price of about 12.47 euros per ton.
