Siemens works with MOEA and Intel to boost entrepreneurs

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Siemens Taiwan on Monday signed a Letter of Intent with the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and Intel to jointly promote entrepreneurship and innovation, beginning with the 2014 APEC Challenge to be held in Taipei in August.

The signing took place on March 21 at a joint press conference between the MOEA's Small and Medium Enterprise Administration, Siemens Ltd., Taiwan and Intel. The signing was witnessed by representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the German Institute Taipei and the American Institute in Taiwan.

The three signatories will cooperate on strengthening the linkage between local innovation and the international community and promote the development of entrepreneurship and innovation in the Asia-Pacific region.

At the 2014 APEC Challenge in Taipei, thirty outstanding teams from 20 countries in the Asia-Pacific region will demonstrate their innovative ideas and visions for related applications and products. The winning team will also have an opportunity to participate in the 2014 Global Siemens New Ventures Forum in Silicon Valley.

Those taking part in this international event will receive international business advisory services and capital matchmaking and media exposure opportunities, thereby hastening the transformation of innovative business models into global business opportunities.

Siemens Ltd., Taiwan President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Erdal Elver remarked that Siemens has built its presence in Taiwan over more than 50 years and has already become an important cooperative partner in technology for many large-, medium- and small-sized enterprises in a variety of fields here.

Participating in the APEC Challenge offers Siemens an opportunity to provide more than an education. Elvar said that Siemens hopes to find teams that exhibit potential to become technical and business partners with them.

Siemens unveiled its “Grow Taiwan Together” initiative in 2012, pledging to support Taiwan's industrial upgrading and sustainable development in the best interests of Taiwan.
