TAIPEI -- A finalist for the International Invitational Tang Prize Medal Design Competition has joined a group of designers from Taiwan and Hong Kong to create a new brand image for China Airlines (CAL), Taiwan's largest carrier.
Taiwanese designer Chen Jun-liang, known for his use of Chinese calligraphy and Eastern images in his work, has created tableware for the carrier's new Boeing 777-300ERs, which will be delivered in September, CAL said Tuesday.
The bowl, for example, is made from lightweight porcelain and painted with landscape motifs on the interior, it said.
Chen, who is also chief executive officer of FREEiMAGE Design Co.,is one of 10 contestants and the only Taiwanese who made it to the final round of a competition to design the medals for the winners of the Tang Prize — billed as the "Asian Nobel Prize."
