Sourcing Taiwan aims for US$5 bil. in orders: council

TAIPEI--Now in its fifth year, 2014's Sourcing Taiwan trade fair is expected to bring orders worth up to US$5 billion, the country's main trade promotion body said.

Set for March 27, the day-long trade fair will arrange one-on-one meetings between 630 buyers from 63 countries and local companies in the machinery, food, and information and communications technology sectors, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) said in a statement.

Compared to last year, 5 percent more buyers registered for this year's fair, which TAITRA called "a sign of a warming global economy."

Among the registered international buyers, 26 have an annual turnover of over US$5 billion, while another 61 have a business volume of over US$1 billion, it added.

These include American multinational retailer Walmart and bookstore Barnes and Noble, Canada's Future Electronics, the Mall Group from Thailand, China's Huawei Technologies Co., Vietnam's CMC Group, and Anand Automotive of India, according to TAITRA.
