TAIPEI -- Bank of America Merrill Lynch will sponsor an investors' conference in Taiwan beginning Monday that will focus on mobile technologies such as 4G infrastructure, cloud computing, wearable devices and affordable smartphones.

The "Taiwan, Technology and Beyond Conference," scheduled for March 17-21, is expected to draw participation from 175 businesses, including 140 domestically listed companies such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), MediaTek Inc. and Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., according to Merrill Lynch.

The keynote speakers will include executives from British chip designer ARM Holdings Plc, Japanese electronics maker Sony Corp., South Korean technology giant Samsung Electronics Co., Chinese PC maker Lenovo Group Ltd. and U.S.-based memory chip maker Micron Technology Inc.

Discussions scheduled during the conference include key issues about fourth-generation (4G) networks, cloud computing-based applications, wearable devices, mid-tier and entry-level smartphones, tablets and solar power applications.

A press briefing will be held Wednesday by three Merrill Lynch analysts, who will answer questions pertaining to the semiconductor, electronics hardware, display and financial sectors, the bank announced in an e-mail.

Also, Merrill Lynch will organize business tours for investors on Monday and Friday under the themes "South Korean technology," "Taiwan 4G," "cloud computing," "Taiwan green energy" and "Taiwan non-electronics/biotech," according to media reports.
