EPIF 2014 trade show comes to Taiwan Thursday

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Through the efforts of the Bureau of Foreign Trade, Taiwan has been selected to host this year's Eco-Products International Fair.

The event is the largest and most historic of its kind in Asia, and will take place from March 13-16 at the Taiwan World Trade Center, Hall 1.

In his address at a pre-opening press conference yesterday, Deputy Taipei City Mayor Chen Hsiung-wen (陳雄文) stated that the event will bolster Taipei's position among the world's leading green cities while fostering growth in related eco-industries.

Exhibition highlights include four pavilions each featuring its own theme. The “green lifestyle” section will showcase YouBike, New Taipei City's renowned public bicycle sharing service. The “carbon emission reduction” section, a new process that refines alcohol and produces bio-plastic from reclaimed kitchen refuse in place of conventional petrochemical materials will be featured. In addition, the New Taipei City Government will be distributing pots of reclaimed soil made from pipes and waterway residues that are ideal for gardening free of charge.

In the “health cloud” section a number of cloud computing-enabled applications will be featured that will enable members of the public to monitor their vital signs, such as blood pressure and blood oxygen levels through customized personal Web-based accounts. The “innovative green products” section will feature offerings by 13 local companies, such as a simple mobile device app to help the public monitor and manage household energy consumption, and a machine that can detect excessive traces of pesticide residues on vegetables within five minutes.

The Eco-Products International Fair 2014 will feature 438 booths from 207 foreign and domestic businesses, the highest number since the annual exhibition was first held in 2004, according to organizers.
